Check this box if you want to enable DIPS. |
DIPS Server |
The name of the DIPS server. At the time of writing this
was postmodem.com, but make sure you check out the DIPS site at http://postmodem.com/dips-admin/ for the latest version of this entry. |
URL Update |
Enter the URL of the update script. At the time of writing
this the correct entry was /dips-admin/update.cgi?, but make sure you check out the DIPS site at http://postmodem.com/dips-admin/ for the latest version of this entry. |
Topic |
Enter the name of the topic that you want your site to be
listed under. The topic name should not contain any special characters (i.e. only
"A".."Z", "a".."z", and
"0".."9" are allowed). The default entry is general;
if you leave the topic field empty your site won't be listed in the site list at http://postmodem.com/dips-admin/list.cgi. |
Password |
Here you should enter the password that DIPS sent you with
e-mail when you joined the service (you can join DIPS at http://postmodem.com/dips-admin/join.htm). If you lost or forgot your DIPS password you can have it remailed to you from
the DIPS members page at http://postmodem.com/dips-admin/members.htm. |
Auto Update |
Check this box if you want DynamIP
to automatically update DIPS information. For example, as soon as DynamIP
detects your web server (HTTPD) it updates the information with the DIPS server. |
DIPS Remote IP Detection |
If this option is unchecked DynamIP
should send the appropriate IP address to DIPS. Under certain conditions (e.g. if you are
behind a Firewall) you might want to let DIPS determine your IP address. This is exactly
what happens if you check this option (DynamIP sends the string AUTO instead of an IP
address). Note that this does not work for everybody. Hence, leave
this option unchecked unless you know exactly what you are doing. |
DIPS Silent Mode |
Do NOT check this option
unless you get error messages indicating that DynamIP is not
receiving any feedback from DIPS (check LOG DIPS in Setup|Options
to see error messages related to DIPS) . If this option is checked DynamIP
drops the connection with DIPS immediately after sending a request without waiting for a
reply from DIPS. DynamIP has no way of detecting DIPS
configuration problems anymore if you check this option. Hence leave it unchecked unless
you know exactly what you are doing. |
Timeout |
Time in seconds DynamIP is
waiting for a reply from the DIPS server. Bigger values increase the chances of
successfully updating your DIPS info with the server. Values too small make it more
difficult to properly connect and update the information. I recommend to keep this value
at the maximum of 65. |
Port of local
HTTPD |
The default value is 80. If you have your local web
server running a different port (e.g. 8080, or 8000 if you're using junkbuster) you can
change the port number. If DynamIP does not detect your web
server at the port number you specify here the built-in DIPS client will not work. |
